On the UFH-screed ground floors of post-2000 new-builds, we specify only products rated for underfloor heating use and carry out moisture and temperature checks before any adhesive is applied. For Edwardian and interwar properties with suspended timber, a 6mm structural ply overlay is installed first to provide the rigid, flat substrate LVT requires. Where original quarry tile or flagstone exists in entrance halls — common on the older Edwardian stock — we discuss options carefully with the owner: LVT can be laid over stable quarry tile if height allows, but preservation of the original is often the preferred approach. A significant tranche of Virginia Water's housing stock dates from the 1960s–1980s — spacious detached homes on The Avenue, Kingsway and Orchard Drive with solid concrete or beam-and-block ground floors. Many were refurbished extensively in the 2000s–2010s, receiving extensions with screed and in some cases retrospective UFH loops. Checking for active UFH before specifying floor coverings is essential — not all systems are clearly labelled.
The 1960s–80s concrete and beam-and-block floors on The Avenue take LVT well once prepared. We check first for any unlabelled retrospective UFH, prime, level any dips, and fit click-lock or glue-down to suit the room — adjusting the method where a heating loop is found. Door trimming is included.
