§ Carpet types

The right carpet for every room.

01

Twist Pile.

The UK's most popular carpet style. Individual fibres are twisted together for durability — the tighter the twist, the harder-wearing the carpet. Well suited to living rooms, hallways and stairs. Available in wool, wool-blend and polypropylene.

02

Loop Pile.

Fibres are looped rather than cut, creating a textured, flat surface. Highly durable and well suited to stairs, hallways and commercial-residential use. Less comfortable underfoot than twist pile but extremely resistant to crushing and wear.

03

Wool Carpet.

Pure and blended wool carpets offer natural warmth, sound absorption and a luxurious feel underfoot. An 80/20 wool-polypropylene blend gives the appearance and softness of wool with improved durability. The premium choice for bedrooms and formal living rooms.

04

Stair Carpet.

Stairs require a carpet rated for heavy wear with a tight pile construction that won't slip under the nosing. We measure each tread individually including winder treads and half-landings, and use the correct fitting method for each staircase type we encounter.

§ Underlay matters

What goes under your carpet is as important as the carpet itself.

11mm PU Foam

Our standard recommendation for bedrooms and living rooms. Provides excellent cushioning and thermal insulation. Makes carpet feel noticeably more luxurious underfoot and significantly extends the carpet's life by reducing fibre fatigue.

Bonded Foam

Denser and firmer than standard PU foam — the right choice for stairs and high-traffic hallways where the underlay needs to stay in place and resist compression. Less cushioning, more stability. We specify this on all stair installations as standard.

Felt Underlay

Traditional wool-felt underlay is recommended for suspended timber ground floors where breathability matters. It allows the floor to breathe rather than trapping moisture, and provides good thermal and acoustic performance. Often the right choice in period Berkshire and Surrey properties.

§ Carpet fitting questions

Common questions about carpet fitting.

What types of carpet do you supply and fit?

We supply and fit a full range of carpet styles including twist pile, loop pile, cut-and-loop, and wool and synthetic blends. We bring samples to your home so you can see every option in your own light before choosing.

Is the old carpet removed as part of the job?

Yes. Uplift and disposal of your existing carpet, underlay and gripper rods is included as standard on all fitting jobs. No skips to hire and no mess left behind — we handle everything as part of the job at no extra charge.

What underlay do you recommend for carpet?

The right underlay depends on the room and your budget. We typically recommend an 11mm PU foam underlay for bedrooms and living rooms for maximum comfort and insulation, and a denser bonded-foam underlay for stairs and high-traffic hallways where stability matters more than softness.

Do you fit carpet on stairs?

Yes. Stair carpet fitting is included in our service. We cut and fit carpet to each tread and riser, including winder treads and half-landings. Stair rods are available if required. We measure stairs accurately at the home visit to avoid any waste or shortfall.

How much does carpet fitting cost in Berkshire and Surrey?

The cost depends on room size, carpet grade and underlay specification. We provide a fully fixed written quote on the day of the free home visit — covering supply, fitting, uplift and door trimming. There are no hidden extras and the number on the quote is the number on the invoice.
