Floors & Fix fits laminate flooring across Wandsworth — living rooms, bedrooms, and hallways in Victorian terraces, Edwardian semis, and conversion flats throughout Earlsfield, Southfields, and Wandsworth Town. Fixed price on the day, door trimming and uplift included.
Wandsworth covers a broad sweep of Victorian terraces and Edwardian semis through Earlsfield, Southfields, and Tooting Broadway, with new riverside developments at Wandsworth Riverside Quarter. Pre-1940 housing overwhelmingly has suspended timber ground floors. New riverside flats have screed and underfloor heating. Conversion flats are common throughout the older terrace stock.
62% 62% of Wandsworth's housing stock was built before 1945 according to ONS Census 2021 data, meaning the majority of properties in the borough have suspended timber ground floors that need correct assessment and preparation before hard flooring installation. — ONS Census 2021 — Wandsworth dwelling age profile
Laminate is well suited to Wandsworth's Edwardian semis in Southfields and upper-floor conversion flat bedrooms throughout Earlsfield, where subfloor moisture is within acceptable limits and a mid-range wood-look finish is wanted. In ground-floor Victorian terrace installations we always test for moisture first — the narrow terrace streets around Wandsworth Common have a higher incidence of airbrick blockage and we won't specify laminate over a borderline subfloor. For Southfields semis with wide room spans we recommend 12 mm AC4 laminate over ply boarding for a solid underfoot feel. All Wandsworth laminate quotes include door trimming and uplift of the old floor.
The grid of Victorian and Edwardian terraces around Earlsfield station — Tranmere Road, Huron Road, Magdalen Road — are well-maintained South London streets with consistent suspended timber ground floors. Joist spans are typically 3.5–4.5 m, which can give a springy feel in the centre of a room. Ply boarding before LVT or laminate is standard. Many have had kitchen extensions added at ground level with concrete or screed subfloors.
Laminate across an Earlsfield terrace is a deck exercise: ply over the springy spans, acoustic foam above, AC4 boards floated with expansion gaps at every wall so the seasonal movement never builds into a peak. Where the rear extension is screeded we check moisture at the junction and run a DPM-backed underlay over the slab side.
Southfields' wide avenues — Replingham Road, Sutherland Grove, Victoria Drive — have substantial Edwardian semis with deeper joist spans and larger room areas. Ground floors are suspended timber throughout in properties built before 1920. The Southfields Conservation Area contains properties with original parquet or softwood board floors that require careful assessment if being overlaid rather than replaced.
The wider Southfields rooms take a 12mm AC4 board over 9mm ply for a floor that sounds solid rather than hollow, and upper bedrooms over original timber fit quickly once any loose boards are screwed down. Door trimming — including original four-panel Edwardian doors — is in every quote.
The Wandsworth Riverside Quarter development along the Causeway and Smugglers Way has screed subfloors and underfloor heating as standard across all phases. These are high-spec flats where service charge provisions often specify approved flooring types and minimum acoustic ratings. UFH-compatible LVT or engineered wood is the usual specification; carpet is also permitted but must be within tog limits.
In Riverside Quarter flats laminate is fitted only from the approved combinations: UFH-rated boards over underlay at or below 0.10 m²K/W, the strictest thermal limit of any floor we fit, checked against the building's heating specification. Acoustic requirements from the service charge schedule are met and documented.
Victorian terraces across Earlsfield and Southfields have been widely converted into two-flat arrangements. Upper flats have original suspended timber with chipboard overlays of variable age and quality. Ground-floor flats, particularly those with limited under-floor ventilation on narrower terrace streets, are prone to elevated moisture readings. Acoustic requirements from freeholders are standard in the Wandsworth borough.
We test before we recommend laminate in a Wandsworth ground-floor conversion: an HDF core over a damp, under-ventilated void swells within seasons, and these narrower terrace streets produce exactly those readings. Within spec, the boards float over a 19dB acoustic underlay; over spec, you'll get a straight recommendation for LVT in matching finishes.
Floors & Fix Fitting Team did an excellent job from start to finish. The team was professional, punctual, and paid great attention to detail throughout the installation. The flooring was fitted to a very high standard, and the finished result has completely transformed the space. They kept everything tidy, communicated clearly, and made sure every aspect of the job was completed perfectly. Subject to moisture readings, yes. We test every ground-floor suspended timber subfloor. If the reading is acceptable, laminate is a good mid-budget choice. If moisture is borderline or elevated, LVT is the safer specification — it handles residual moisture far better.
We use a 3 mm foam or felt acoustic underlay providing 19 dB or above impact sound reduction. This satisfies most Wandsworth borough managing agent acoustic requirements. We carry technical data sheets for product approval.
Yes — Southfields semis are a regular installation for us. Larger room spans in Edwardian properties benefit from 12 mm laminate over ply boarding for stability. We include subfloor ply boarding in the quote where required.
We can run laminate into a kitchen but recommend considering LVT instead, particularly near the sink and dishwasher where water risk is higher. Laminate's HDF core will swell if water is allowed to penetrate the seams repeatedly.
