Floors & Fix supplies and fits laminate across all Slough SL1–SL3 postcodes. Laminate works well in the 1930s Langley and Colnbrook semis and on dry upper floors throughout Slough. On ground-floor concrete in Chalvey and Britwell we test moisture first — if damp is present we'll recommend LVT, which is better suited to those conditions.
Slough's housing stock is dominated by post-war and 1960s–70s concrete-floor construction in Chalvey, Britwell and the Langley corridor, where elevated ground moisture is a routine finding. The 1930s semis around Langley and Colnbrook introduce suspended timber ground floors to the mix. An ongoing town-centre regeneration has added new-build apartments with underfloor heating across SL1.
71% of Slough's residential properties were built before 1980, with a large proportion of post-war local-authority construction carrying solid concrete ground floors with elevated moisture readings. — ONS Census 2021, housing stock age, Slough local authority
Laminate is a practical choice for Slough's 1930s semis in Langley and Colnbrook, where suspended timber ground floors — once ply-rafted — provide a sound floating base. Upper floors across Slough's housing stock are generally excellent laminate candidates, particularly the 1960s and 70s Cippenham estates where chipboard upper floors are flat and stable. On ground-floor concrete in Chalvey, Britwell and the post-war estates, we always test moisture before specifying laminate — if readings are elevated, LVT is the safer choice since laminate will swell at the joints in a persistently damp environment.
Council-built terraces and semis across Chalvey, Britwell and the Langley Road corridor were constructed through the 1950s and 60s with solid concrete ground floors. Early DPCs are frequently degraded and moisture readings on ground floors are often elevated — moisture assessment before any installation is standard practice on these properties.
Laminate is moisture-sensitive — sustained damp beneath the boards causes the HDF core to swell, joints to rise, and the floor to become uneven and noisy. On ground-floor concrete with a history of moisture problems we test at the home visit and advise honestly. In many cases we recommend LVT instead: it delivers a similar wood-look finish but with a fully waterproof core that tolerates damp ground floors. We will never fit laminate on a subfloor where the risk of moisture damage is high.
The Langley and Colnbrook semis built in the 1930s have suspended timber ground floors — less common across Slough than in surrounding Berkshire towns. These properties benefit from ply preparation before LVT or laminate, and felt underlay under carpet where breathability is important for the floor structure.
Laminate click joints are not designed to flex, and a deflecting suspended timber subfloor will stress them until they separate. We install structural ply before any laminate to eliminate movement across joist spans. An acoustic foam underlay is laid on top of the ply, reducing impact noise between floors — important in terrace and semi-detached properties. Ply preparation is included in the fixed price.
The Cippenham estates and parts of Burnham built in the 1960s and 70s are almost entirely solid concrete throughout. Moisture levels vary — some properties have had DPC injections over the years; others have not. We test at every home visit and include any preparation in the fixed price.

New-build apartments and houses delivered through Slough's town-centre regeneration programme — particularly around the High Street and Bath Road corridors — have liquid-screed floors with wet underfloor heating. Product and installation method must be selected for continuous heat cycle compatibility.
Laminate can be used over underfloor heating, but only with products and underlays specifically rated for it. We supply UFH-rated laminate boards and specify underlay with a thermal resistance of ≤0.10 m²K/W — lower than the limit for carpet or LVT, as laminate transfers heat less efficiently. Every product we install over UFH is confirmed in writing as manufacturer-approved for the application.
Yes, on an upper floor or dry ground floor. Cippenham's 1960s houses typically have solid concrete ground floors — we test moisture at the visit. If the floor is dry, laminate floats well on a 3-in-1 underlay. If it's damp, we'd recommend LVT instead.
AC4 is our standard recommendation for family homes — heavy residential traffic rated, performs well in hallways and living rooms. We bring samples so you can choose the style and colour at the home visit.
Laminate is not waterproof, so we don't recommend it in kitchens or bathrooms. LVT is the better product there. We can run laminate through living areas and hallways and switch to LVT in wet rooms for a coordinated finish.
Yes — uplift and disposal of the existing floor, sub-floor preparation, fitting and door trimming are all included in the fixed price we give you at the free home visit. There are no extras on the day of fitting.
Typically one day for the ground floor. Upper floors can usually be completed the same day or the following morning depending on room count and sub-floor preparation required.
We come to you with samples, measure up and give you a fixed price on the day. No obligation, no deposit. See our laminate flooring service or all flooring options in Slough.
